Health Care “Debate”
I am apposed to paying an obligation on behalf of another person, especially when that person has made poor decisions that ultimately determine the size of that obligation.
In plain English:
“Why should my money be stolen to pay the medical bills for some illegal-jobless-alcoholic-diabetic-smoker?”
fuck no.
Happenings
Our three month home remodel is coming to a close. They are currently in the process of painting (so we are out of the house) and moving into the floor refinishing next week.
We can hardly wait.
Long Absence
Well, it is time to pick up the blogging habit again. Hopefuly I can keep this up a bit more regularly. As for events in the past year; our pet (Rosie) died, we replaced her with two cats. We are about to have our home remodeld over the next two months. We purchased a HDTV and a laptop for use in the front of the house. Both children are attending the same grade-school.
Immigrant Protests
Some time ago I heard a man liken foreign policy to a neighborhood. Think of a house like a country. So when your druken neighbor is beating up his wife, you might cross over the fence and defend her from further harm.
Apply this metaphor to the current protest by immigrants in the United States.
At first they come over to your house do a little yard work, they are hard workers.
Then they ask to come inside for a cool drink of water, then they use your phone to make long distance calls.
They ask to stay overnight, not mentioning they have 8 children under the age of 14.
Then they ask if they can bring over “mama” from the old country, she speaks no english, refuses to help around the house, and demands a $50,000 heart transplant for free due to a lifetime of choking down lard laden refried beans and goat entrail soup.
Thank you Mexico, you can suck it.
Impending Birth
My brother is about to become a father for the first time. Hehehe, I can’t wait. This is going to rock his little world. My sister-in-law went into labor at 2 AM this morning, and still hasn’t delivered yet (4:15 PM.)
Enron Trial Starts
Well the circus has begun. My commute after dropping off the children at school brings me past the Federal courthouse here in Houston. Last week they were setting up tents and crowd control barriers. I will be interesting to see what It looks like in full media frenzy tomorrow when I drive by.
Provision
Here are work we have been quite busy over the last two weeks calculating the change in deferred income taxes and related profit and loss effects. We call this “the provision.” Before I took my new position, I had limited exposure to the actual work that went into this exercise. I thought I had a good grasp of the underlying priciples involved. It is quite amazing how quickly things can change when it comes time to applying abstract knowledge to actual work. I can only imagine how a new engineer must feel when he sets down to draw up a new machine or piece of equipment.
WordPress 2.0 Theme
I have finally settled down to a nice wordpress theme, K2. It is a bit more complicated that the old themes I hacked on in wordpress 1.5, but I feel it will be much more flexible in making cool changes in the future. I wish to add a weather applet, and perhaps a filckr plugin. But for now I need to commit to posting daily.
Six Rules, make that Seven
Make turns from the appropriate lane. I -hate- it when someone makes a turn from 3 lanes over.
Upgraded to WordPress 2.0
No problems, I just need to update the background pic in the titlebar and add a few customizations on the right column.
enjoy.
